From the Admiral’s Cabin

We recently had the pleasure of having Angelo Lavranos, the designer of our wonderful boats, visit our shores. He thoroughly enjoyed sailing one of our newly launched boats, “No Longer a Dream”. Despite light winds, Angelo was delighted with the handling and refined trim. Also out on the day were John and Juanita Bendele, who took delivery of “Tee Time”, their 38 with a distinctly African feel (see pics at right). To John and Juanita well done for getting to Brazil and thanks for all the good times and friendship, see you soon. Check out www.teetime38.com for more!

One of the principal improvements with “No Longer a Dream” was the custom navigation and communications panel (with high-res GPS on a plasma display) and a new switch/status panel, both really good looking and unobtrusive. Thanks to Craig and the team who keep raising the bar. Good one.

I am currently attending boat shows in the USA and will return in March, bristling with fresh ideas and improvements. Wendy tells me this newsletter is bi-monthly, so you may have to wait a while before you find out how it went with the shows. Until then, happy sailing “may the wind be with you”!

Cheers,

Dave

John and Juanita were so plesaed with their purchase, they dedicated a website to it! Check out www.teetime38.com

News: Western Cape launches job creation initiative

The Western Cape government and the City of Cape Town launched the Cape Town boat building and technology initiative recently. The initiative aims to create more than 2 500 jobs over the next five years.

About 500 000 people in the Western Cape are unemployed and 80% are young black people. The boat building industry was identified to create jobs. The Unicity will donate R350 000 and the provincial government R1 million to promote the industry. At least 85% of the South African boat building industry is in Cape Town. It employs about 3 000 people and produces goods and services valued at over R1 billion. Billy Edwards of the Fish Eagle Park says besides the jobs created in the factory, they also create employment via their sub-contractors and suppliers and this all adds up to enormous amounts of people involved.

South Africa's first Boat-Building Academy will be launched at Westlake Technikon next year. They will train 24 unemployed matriculants every year. -SAPA

Craft Improvements, July-Oct 2004

As usual we're pushing the very limits of improving our craft. All our craft carry a 5-year all-weather structural integrity guarantee.

Some mentionable new features: GPS navigation now on large screen with a small slave at the helm. The Admiral 38ft also sports a large king-sized cabin, air-conditioned saloon and cabins, DVD units and genset.

Our central switch/indicator panel recieved a facelift and now shows the status of the entire craft with an unobtrusive yet functional display. With the new displays and recesses to fit them, the deck and main cabin area now look and feel more open, with a real sense of modern design and open living without losing the quality feel of nautical materials.
