Admiral Yachts Newsletter March 2006

From the Captain’s Cabin...

What an awesome start to 2006! I'm not sure it can get any better than this. As some of you are no doubt aware, we entered our Admiral 50 open day charter version into the 2006 Cape Town to Bahia Yacht Race. This race started on the 4 th January in winds of up to 44 knots and ended some 20 days later in Salvador, Brazil with the Admiral Explorer taking line honours in our class. More at www.admiraladventures.com .

This race was beneficial in a number of ways as I got the opportunity to put our product through its paces. We were also able to test new equipment while taking the boat to the extreme. Diverse weather conditions, some of which were quite extreme and a lot of hard sailing saw the equipment and our product performing about expectations.

There were three companies which assisted us in some sponsorship for the event, namely Southpact which supplied foul weather gear, Icom which supplied the VHF, HF and our communications package as well as Harken who gave us some additional discounts.

Without sounding bias, I would like to add that all of the products supplied by these companies performed exceptionally well and you can look forward to seeing these items on your boats in the future.

. . .

The 2006 Miami Boat Show...

After leaving Brazil , the next item on the agenda was the 2006 Miami Boat Show. Although in my opinion, the show was substantially quieter than last year, we still sold two 50ft's and two 40ft's. In addition to this, we still have a number of interested potential clients.

The Miami show also gave Wendy and Craig the opportunity to meet existing as well as new clients. The highlight of the show had to be the enormous owners dinner, or what we would like to call the “gathering of the owners”, where our table at Las Ranchos stretched almost the full length of the restaurant, with nearly 30 people, the youngest of which was little 2 year old Hoku.

We look forward to seeing more of you at the next Show!

TIP OF THE MONTH

Do not become complacent with regards to reefing or dowsing the spinnaker when threatening conditions are approaching. Reef when you think you need to reef and do not delay.
