... to our second newsletter for 2006. Quite a bit has transpired over the passed few months. Our main areas of focus have been related to the design and construction of our new factory, located in Atlantis, an industrial area some 20 minutes north of Cape Town. As most of you are aware our current premises, not being purpose built, is straining under the demands of our production schedules. Effectively the lack of space is placing a strangle-hold on the company's future potential. Our current floor space is calculated at 1100 sq.m. The new factory is almost six times the current size with a far higher roof structure, better ventilation, easier access to the vessels and a far more productive working environment.

With the move to our new premises we are confident that we can continue producing the high quality boat that you have become accustomed to and that we would be able to accommodate, you when visiting our factory, in a far more comfortable environment.

All our senior staff members, as well as all our factory staff are extremely excited about the move. Each one of them has contributed in one way or another to make the necessary improvements and some have come up with some really fabulous ideas to help streamline production and increase productivity.

Currently we are approximately 50% complete with the new factory and expect to move location in the first two weeks of December this year. Our factory will be closing on the 15 th December 2006 and it is our aim to have our staff Christmas function in our new premises.

I not sure if I am more excited about our new 40ft or about the new factory. I think the factory is currently running a close second. A tremendous amount has been achieved in respect to our new 40ft, with the plug close to completion. As you will note from the photos, the only work that needs to be completed, is the targa wing and binimi configuration.

The final fairing process is nearing an end and we should have a coat of paint on the boat by early next week at which time we will start to layup the actual new 40ft mould. An enormous amount of time, effort, cost and expertise has gone into developing what we believe will be the leader of 40ft catamarans in 2007. We have thus far received rave revenues from the likes of IBI magazine and Jack Allinson, and even though its taken a little longer than initially anticipated, we believe that the amount of attention to detail will certainly be worth the wait.

The initial 40ft concept has been drawn extensively from the success of our 38ft range. Over the years we have called upon the experiences, suggestions and needs of our clients as well as those of our potential clients. Our new Admiral 40ft is thus shaped from the merging of all these ideas and concepts, where possible. We would like to use this opportunity to thank all for their valid contributions. Once again, a special thanks to Angelo Lavranos, for his efforts in helping us to make this concept a reality.

Our fabulous new 40ft sports several completely new features, which include the following:

  • An increased bridgedeck clearance . Even though the Admiral 38 currently has one of the highest bridgedeck clearances in comparison to other boats in a similar size range, we felt that it was something that potential clients wished to see incorporated in the new product. As there is no downside to increasing clearance, an additional 200 mm was added to the existing clearance.
  • Each hull's width has been increased by 100 mm, giving the boat more internal volume in the hulls as well as adding and improving buoyancy. This has resulted in the increased size of the sugarscoop areas. The overall beam of the boat has therefore also increased by 200 mm.
  • One of the factors that we felt needed addressing, was the deck area around the side of the coachroof. We have managed to create a flat deck area from the front of the boat all the way aft, without losing the boats distinctive lines. This has increased accessibility on the boat enormously. In achieving this, we have had to increase the sheer line by 300 mm. Another major benefit is the increased internal volume created in the hulls, not mention the increased headroom. This has led to a higher free board area that will also allow the boat to be dryer in adverse sea conditions.
  • The higher free board area has made it necessary to raise the coachroof height, thereby added additional headroom in the saloon. In achieving this, we have made provision for much larger saloon windows, which has improved forward vision. In keeping the boat proportional, we have widened the width of the saloon by 200mm, which has obviously led to a larger saloon area.
  • A few of the more minor changes include a larger nav table and helm station as well as larger flatter forward hatches for easier access.

We have received a number of emails from potential clients and interested parties regarding the Annapolis 2006 boat show. In this regard, we regret to inform that we are unable to attend the show this year, as we will be attending the Cape Town International Boat Show. Furthermore, we are determined to complete the new factory as well as the new 40ft prior to closure this year and unfortunately do not have the necessary manpower to give the show our full attention. Of course we will be attending the 2007 Miami Boat show as well as the 2007 Annapolis boat show where we will launch the new 40ft.
